Welcome to the girls’competitive teams page at American Gymnastics & Cheer! Below is a brief description of each team.
Girls’ Pre-Competitive Team:
The Pre-Competitive Team is by instructor invitation only with emphasis towards competitive team. This team is does not require competition and is more of an advanced class for girls ages 5 and older. The team meets twice a week for one hour and thirty minutes.
Girls’ Development Teams:
The developmental team consists of USAG levels 2 through Pre-5. At these levels, the team is learning compulsory routines developed by the USAG. At these levels, the team competes in fun meets only. Fun meets are for gaining meet experience and learing how to perform in front of a crowd and judges. No individual placement medals are given. Participants receive achievement ribbons and score cards. The teams practice from 6 to 16 hours a week that includes ballet training once a week.
Girls’ Compulsory Teams:
The compulsory teams consist of Levels Five and Six. At these levels, the team is learning compulsory routines developed by the USAG. Children at this level compete for individual and team placement awards. The teams compete in and out of state with the season ending with a State competition in April or May. The Level 5 and 6 teams practice 16 hours a week that includes ballet training once a week.
Girls’ Optional Teams:
Optional gymnastics consists of Levels 7 through 10. At these levels, gymnasts will have their own routines choreographed to reflect the gymnast’s own style and attitude. Routines will need to meet certain skill and difficulty requirements as required by the USAG. Gymnasts at this level compete in 6 or more meets and finish with a State competition at the end of the season. In addition to state competitions, Level 8 will have the opportunity to qualify for regional competition and Level 9/10 will have the opportunity to qualify for regional and national competitions.
